Tools For Schools

The 2011 Tools For School was a success thanks to all of the generous donations of school supplies!!

Thank You to those community members who took the time to drop off items.

Thank You to Beaners Fun Cuts for your support!!

Classroom success begins with having the essential tools for learning. Even simple materials such as pens and notebooks can have a huge effect on a student’s educational experience. Unfortunately, the cost incurred to purchase these supplies can be beyond the budget of families with limited resources.

The ‘Tools for School’ program exists to fill the gap in our community and provide the resources to local students in order to encourage their future success and the educational health of our community.

This year the United Way of Lethbridge & South Western Alberta, in partnership with Beaners Fun Cuts, is establishing a Lethbridge ‘Tools for School’ program. Through community efforts we hope to make the program a success for this year and many more to come.

Donate Now

You can donate your new, packaged school supplies at Beaners Fun Cuts 30-3709 Mayor Magrath South (beside Future Shop), and at the United Way 1277 3rd Ave South. We accept both name brands and generic.

The donated supplies will be distributed by Interfaith Food Bank to the two local school divisions who will divide them among the schools and students most in need.

We have recently initiated our own programs through partnerships with local businesses and other not-for-profits which provide health and educational assistance for our youngest community members: Milk Program, Coats for Kids & Families and Tools for School.

$1.00 from every haircut at Beaners Fun Cuts during the week of August 21-28, 2010 will be used to purchase supplies still in need.

Through the ‘First Day of School’ program the Interfaith Food Bank of Lethbridge provided 728 students with back to school supplies in 2009 with numbers projected to increase for 2010.

While students of all ages are in need, high school classes require more expensive supplies, such as geometry sets, scientific calculators and supportive backpacks. Many older students can’t afford these essential learning tools as they may be living outside of the parents’ home or the family simply cannot afford it.
